Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped build this playground!! Without you, it could not be possible!!
Built by parents over 30 years ago and enjoyed by generations of school children and parish families, the SCS playground is a beloved part of our campus and community. In fact, the grandchildren of the original builders are the ones who now play on the playground daily. The playground's construction - while state of the art when built - was all wood and, therefore susceptible to the elements and natural decline.
Despite the best efforts of our Co-Op and Men's Club, the upkeep had become overwhelming. Much of the structure is rotting and causing safety issues. The safety of our children is paramount and necessitated the replacement of the current play structure with a new structure using modern technology. The new playground was designed by the same company that created the iconic SCS playground 30 years ago and will join our PK3 playground and new Gator Field as hallmarks of our parish campus.
The new equipment is similar in design and look to the current one, however, it will have several new features:
The existing playground was removed May 18, 2022. After the demolition was completed, there was some site preparation / drainage work completed. After everything was prepared for the construction, the new playground was constructed by parishioners just like it was 30 years ago. The community build took place from Aug. 3 - 7, 2022.
The old buried timecapsule was dug up and a new one one was buried.
The new playground was paid for completely through the following sources: the Men’s Club donation, the Coop donation, the school building fee assessed as part of tuition, Parish Fair proceeds, Gala proceeds, summer camp proceeds, and iGiveCatholic donations from last year. No additional fundraising was needed to pay for the playground. By supporting all of the events on campus, you helped make this new playground a reality! Thank you for you for generosity!
On Friday, September 23, 2022, the new playground was blessed during a schoolwide assembly.
